The Voyage

The voyage departs from Tromso, a town in the north of Norway high above the Arctic Circle. From there we will explore the surrounding fjords in search of whales and northern lights. We will explore the coast and visit different anchorages and villages every day.

A Journey In Search Of Whales and Northern Lights

The area surrounding Tromso offers the perfect chance to encounter whales during the winter. Our days will be spent exploring the fjords and keeping a keen lookout for these majestic creatures from the comfort of a warm expedition vessel. By night we will best positioned to view the northern lights in an area with next to no light pollution.

Flexible Itinerary

A part of the adventure and the difference from travelling on larger ships is that our itinerary is kept flexible. This allows the captain and guide to make the most of the weather conditions and for you to see as much as possible.

Expert Guide and Lectures

On this voyage, we will be accompanied by an expert guide who will share information about the places we visit, and run lecturers so you can learn about the geography, history and the wildlife of Norway.

Daily Shore Landings

Shore landings are the essence of every expedition cruise. We plan to take you ashore by Zodiac landing craft and visit different sites every day (weather permitting). During shore landings, we will be accompanied by a guide who will take you on hikes and explore remote villages.

What Will I See?

Whilst we can make no guarantee, there is a high chance of seeing both whales and northern lights on a daily basis. The area is home to some of Norway’s most stunning scenery and remote villages where we will go ashore and explore.

Why A Small Expedition Vessel?

We believe a small expedition vessel is the best way to experience Norway in a closeup and personal way. We have a guide on board and just 12 guests, so there are lots of opportunities to talk to your guide and learn more about the area you are visiting. There is no waiting to join a Zodiac as there is space for everyone onboard. Find out why we prefer small ships to larger ships here.

Is a Small Expedition Vessel Right For Me?

A small expedition vessel offers a comfortable and spacious platform to explore Norway. She is smaller than an expedition cruise ship with the huge benefit of offering a more intimate and personal experience with just 12 guests. Inside there is a communal saloon area to warm up in after a day in the cold.

This voyage takes place along a mixture of sheltered fjords and open coastline. The Captain will make decisions based on the weather to ensure the most comfortable and safe experience.

The Expedition Vessel

Step aboard M/V Togo a classic expedition vessel.

Togo is a 102ft /31m motor yacht, custom built in 1965 by legendary Dunston Shipyard and last refitted in 2018. Originally built as North Sea trawler she was converted into Lloyd’s safety vessel in 1980s, then into a Yacht with extensive refit 2012 and upgraded to expedition yacht in 2018.

Togo has a well-appointed galley and mess room, elegant and comfortable mahogany paneled salon with bar and kitchenette. Her deck areas are spacious with semi-enclosed sides. She is a sturdy vessel with elegant sheer, sails with abundant intimacy from the bygone era of tramp steamers.
